1st September 2015 – The Oxjam Aldershot Takeover volunteer team successfully held a two day music event at the Funky End Aldershot over the August Bank Holiday weekend. Both events, The Funky Fest Warm up Party, which took place Friday 28th and Funky Fest, with took place Saturday 29th were both extremely well attended by locals helping raise a grand total of £1130. The two day event raised the most funds than any other fundraising event thus far.
The Friday event consisted of a warm up DJ party from 8pm until 3am Saturday morning and raised £412.00 through collection buckets and other activities such as glow sticks and vodka jelly shots. Put together by Passive Aggressive and the Funky End, this was a night of heavy bass music from House to Garage through to Drum’n’Bass. The Funky End music venue was filled to capacity. Dj’s from the night included Joshwana, Mikey Dubz, Chambers, Rineston Churchill, Dreadless, Phil.E.Blunt
The Saturday event, which began at 1pm, featured face painting, a professional magician, freshly prepared hot food from Mr Footlong, live bands in the afternoon and DJs across two rooms in the evening. The event raised £719.00 through collection buckets and other activities such as a raffle, face painting and the Lemon jug. Live acts from the day included; One Click Malice, Travis Marc, Stupid Chief, Deano Acoustic, Leo Dymond, Mikey Riley and David Salsbury. At 9pm the instruments were put away and the venue was split into two rooms, both featuring live DJ sets from DJ Sloanzy, DJ RuffHou5, DJ Klash, DJ Matt Cole ,DJ Tom Upton and DJ Scadee,
Oliver Clusky, owner of the Funky End, Aldershot stated, ‘The event exceeded all expectations. All of the organisers, volunteers, performers and staff pulled together to produce one of the most memorable and satisfying weekends we’ve had in all the years we have been here. It was truly fantastic’.
Kerry Brown, the lead Event Organiser said, ‘Both events at the Funky End were amazing. We had a great group of volunteers who helped set up & run each event. As well as some wonderful musicians and DJ’s who got everyone up singing and dancing. We even had face painting, food and a professional magician. We all can’t wait for the main Oxjam Takeover event on the 17th October.’
The Oxjam Aldershot Takeover team is pleased to announce their next and final upcoming fundraising event to raise funds for Oxjam Aldershot. The Oxjam Art & Photography Exhibition will take place at the West End Centre, Aldershot, 7-10pm.
