18th June 2015 – The Oxjam Aldershot Takeover team is pleased to announce a 1 day wrist-banded music extravaganza across several specially chosen venues in the centre of Aldershot Town, 17th October 2015. The Oxjam Aldershot Takeover is part of Oxfam’s month long music festival, run throughout October by volunteers in hundreds of locations across the UK. Local bands and artists are coming together to raise money to help fight poverty, help in emergencies and disasters and help communities build their own long term solutions.
Plans for the Aldershot event are progressing quickly. The takeover team have been inundated with applications from talented musicians of all ages and music styles to take part in the event showing high levels of enthusiasm. The confirmed venues for the multi venue event include; The Imperial Standard, The White Hart and The Funky End. Two more venues are in the pipeline and will be confirmed within the coming weeks.
The Oxjam Aldershot Takeover event, headed up by Kerry Brown, is being arranged with no financial help. In order to raise the crucial funds for the main event three fundraising activities for all ages have been organised prior to the event.
The first of the fundraising activities will take place at Farnham Carnival, 27 June 2015. The Oxjam Aldershot Takeover team will be heading over to Farnham dressed to impress as various rock stars, pop stars and musical legends for the Farnham Carnival and taking part in the procession. Volunteers are welcome to join in help raise the crucial funds for the main event, email firstname.lastname@example.org for more details.
The second part of the first fundraising activity will be a six hour family friendly gig in the garden at the newly renovated Marlborough head, Farnham. Kerry Brown says, “What better way to celebrate the carnival and get the Oxjam Aldershot Takeover out there than a pre and after party at a local pub. We have teamed up with the Marlborough head to put on a great family friendly gig for those who don’t want the fun to end after the carnival is over.” The live music will begin from 3pm onwards through until 9pm.
The second main fundraising activity is a Kiddies’ Fun Day, taking place on the 8th August 2015, at the Ascension Church, Aldershot. The Oxjam Takeover team are holding the kiddies’ fun day for the children and parents to go and have some fun in the sun. This event will include different activity sessions for the children such as messy play, music groups, face painting and stalls selling pre-loved toys and clothes in good condition. As well as giving a platform for local crafters and makers to sell their wares and children’s activity businesses to get their names out there too. There is still availability to book a stand to get in contact with Kerry at email@example.com.
The final last push to raise funds before the big event will be an Art & Photography Exhibition, 8th September 2015, at the well known West End Centre, Aldershot. Kerry commented “We feel that art, photography and music are all such fabulous art forms and help many people express themselves. We have organised this exhibition and are contacting local artists and photographers to donate a piece to us to be auctioned off to raise money for Oxfam.”
